Good eats from 35,000 feet in the air - first class.  Sushimon, Ichiza, and Babystacks (formerly known as Babycakes).

The husband and I decided for an afternoon tea near where we live.  This place is no longer open…(yeah, I waited this long to post these pics)…  I will say that it is not as good as our usual spot.  That’s probably why they closed down.

Cravings..

Since I don’t blog about full meals anymore, but still take pictures of everything I consume…I have decided to post up the latest batch of Vegas eats that I’ve taken in December 2012.  I’m really just torturing myself because I’m starving right now and have this strong craving for pork chops or an In & Out cheeseburger with extra well done fries…  But that’s besides the point…

Why am I posting these pics?  It’s because I’m going there in a little over a week and I CAN’T WAIT TO JUST EAT.  Trust me.  I’ve been calorie deprived in the last month that I’m about ready to slap someone in the face.  Ok, maybe I won’t go crazy, but if I don’t get some decent food in the next few weeks, I might punch a hole in the wall…or just pass out…
 =)

imageAh yes.  Saba and Garlic Tuna at Sushimon.  I crave this tuna.  It goes so well with ponzu sauce.  I don’t know why my friend and I always sit at the bar, but this last time we went to Sushimon, we actually sat at a table and we ended up eating a lot more.

Can’t ever go wrong with Sake.  Not sure what the white fish is or what the red one is, but they were both good.  Red snapper, perhaps?

Tobiko with quail egg…

Cajun albacore.

More of the pink fish…

I really don’t like uni, except I will try them when I’m a really fancy restaurant.  Last time I tried uni at Sushimon, I had to rush to the bathroom to puke.  It looks like tongue and the consistency is just so weird.

Of course, you can’t ever skip the fried shrimp heads with ponzu.  The best, ever.

Baked green mussels…

If you don’t already know, Sushimon is my go-to all you can eat sushi spot.  I’ve been going there since 2004 and I love it.  They’re open till 2 or 2:30am.  Normally, I can put down at least $30 worth of sushi, but I think during this round, I ate at least $45 worth, if not more.  I can’t wait to go back.  My friend wants me to try this new restaurant to see how I will like it compared to Sushimon, so we’ll see.  I had him call Goyemon to check if they had shrimp heads and ponzu, but at the time they said no.  Turns out they did… hmmm…  Anyway, moving along to meal #2 during this trip.

The husband and I stayed at the Venetian and we decided to head down to Bouchon for brunch.  I think he ordered some kind of cappuccino and I might have gotten hot chocolate…

I always ask the server what the soup is for the day and I think this happened to be roasted red pepper and tomato soup… maybe.

imageDemi-Epis.  BEST.  BREAD.  EVER.  Thomas Keller is brilliant for making these.  I asked our server for three to four servings of this bread.  Even after we paid our bill, I asked the server to bring me another round…  The butter and the strawberry jam went so well with this.  Since having gone to Bouchon, I purchased the Bouchon Bakery book and this is the only thing I’ve ever made from it.  That book is ridiculous!  It’s definitely not meant for a home cook and self-taught baker.  It asks for high-end ingredients and processes that will test your patience!  It also gave me one of the deepest papercuts I’ve had in a long while…

I ordered the corned beef hash with two over-easy eggs.  There are several amazing dishes on the menu, but anytime I see corned beef, the Filipino in me slaps me in the face and tells me to order it.  I have to keep telling myself that this is REAL corned beef, not the crap you get in the can.  But what delicious crap it is…mmmm…

image

Ahh..the Chicken and Waffles.  I didn’t care for this dish, but the most amazing component was the bacon gravy!  I had to order an extra serving so I could pour it on my corned beef…  Damn it.

So there you have it…  Two meals that I had in Vegas that I crave the most.  I’ve been on an eating plan and have been eating less than 1400 calories a day, which is quite insane.  I turned 29 this January and I’d like to be healthier before my 30th.  No alcohol, less sodium, more vitamins, and plenty of nutritious food.  That’s the plan and so far, I’m doing well.  I am just starving right now…  :(

Not playing around! Starch starch starch! Mango and sticky rice. Pad Thai prawns. Tom yum prawns. Crab meat fried rice. Chicken yellow curry. Don’t hate. 😁😁 I’ve got less than 8hrs till I say bye to starch for a long while. Wouldn’t be surprised if I gain 5lbs or more from today. Ehh, at least I’ll be closing out the year with a happy belly. Haha. #food #foodie #foodporn #iphoneography #thai #starchgalore #indulgence #happy (Taken with Instagram at Banh Thai)

Flourless Cake

Since I’m on the no starch eating plan, I still need to satiate my dessert cravings somehow.  I found this recipe for a 4 layer chocolate cake.  The ingredients aren’t as intimidating as I thought they would be.  I mean, what harm can 12 eggs really do?  So maybe cut the sugar down a bit & add more chocolate…  I don’t know.  Do it the way you want, but for all I know is that I’m going to try this and hopefully enjoy every single bite.  How do I go on with the holidays without chocolate and desserts?  It’s just not right I tell you.

If you must know, I’m on day 8 of this plan & I crave potatoes more than I do rice.  Shocking, I know.  If rice could run through my veins, it would.  However, I miss French fries, tater tots, hash browns, etc. Ok, so I do miss porridge..A LOT.

I’ll do a separate post on what this no starch eating plan actually entails.

Bacon Lube...whaaa?

Bacon makes everything better right?  But to put it in lube form…?  Just watch the video & be amazed & disgusted & LOL at the same time.

Simpsons Episode

So I haven’t blogged in such a long time, but that’s also because I haven’t had the desire or energy to do so.  I get so incredibly hungry that I lose interest in writing about anything.  And with apps like Instagram, I can just post pics from there and it’s done…in an instant.

With the Simpsons episode tonight about foodies and food bloggers, coupled along with my recent streak of cooking and baking for the last 2 weeks, I figured why not.  Maybe I’ll do one post here and there.

With that said…Tumblr, the Foodie Monster is back…part-time anyway.  =)
