Phil’s BBQ: San Diego, CA

People on FB were quite helpful with my foodieventure in SD.  I got three recs for Phil’s BBQ and man I’m glad we went because it was probably the best bbq I’ve had!  I’m still full from lunch and that was over 5 hours ago!

Here’s their menu hanging up.  We waited in line for about 45 mins, but it was worth it.

Tim took pics of the food ready to be picked up from the counter.  Makes your mouth water doesn’t it?

MINE IS!

Onion rings.  I normally don’t eat these because they give me serious gas!  BUT, these were so good.  The batter wasn’t too thick and it didn’t get soggy.  It remained crunchy and probably would have been good on its own.  I didn’t use the dipping sauce they provided and used the extra bbq sauce I ordered.  Yes, I ALWAYS order extra sauce.  I could swim in BBQ if I had the chance.  I’ve said before - I’m a saucy girl!

Best of Both - Baby Rack with 1/4 lb of chicken and 4 ribs - a side of macaroni salad and sweet baked beans.

Sorry for the blurry picture.  I was in a rush because I was so hungry at this point that I just took the pic and didn’t even care how it turned out. lol.

Macaroni salad was such a nice compliment to the tangy BBQ sauce.  I even dipped my fork-full of mac salad in the sauce haha.

Sweet baked beans.  If you know me, then you know that I dislike beans.  Again, for the obvious reason that it gives me major gas.  Haha.  Sorry folks…  BUT this was really good.  Not as good as Hooters, but still up there.  It could use some bacon pieces though.  That would make this magical.

BBQ Broham - pulled pork sandwich with coleslaw on the side.  Look at the mound of pork on this thing!  Tim killed this!

Recap:  Phil’s BBQ on Sports Arena Ave. in San Diego, California.  GO!  Seriously, GO!  Best BBQ I’ve had in CA and I said IN CA because I have friends who are from BBQ states and I don’t want them to shoot me - lol.  The sauce is perfect and the meat is wonderful.  Gorilla’s in Daly City doesn’t stand a chance against these guys.  Enough said.
